The incident occurred at the end of March, when a 38-year-old man, frustrated after an unsuccessful attempt to register a vehicle, noticed a vehicle belonging to one of the office employees. – In a fit of anger, he decided to steal the license plate, hoping he would not be caught – reports Sub-Commissioner Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Lubań. – The next day, the same man appeared again in the office building, where he was recognized by one of the people.

The police were immediately notified of the incident. The spokesperson said: – It turned out that the 38-year-old had been driving a car in violation of a decision by the authorities concerning the withdrawal of his driving privileges. The ban was in force in his case, constituting an additional element of the criminal activity.

Moreover, the vehicle in which the suspect arrived at the county office was fitted with license plates from another car—a Volkswagen that had been stolen in 2024.

The sub-commissioner added:

Together with the detainee, the officers went to his place of residence, where they discovered in the garage the license plates stolen from the office parking lot, as well as other plates. The plates were secured, and the man was taken into police custody.

She also added:

The suspect was also charged with possessing a small quantity of narcotic substances, which were found on him during a personal search conducted at the end of 2024.

By decision of the prosecutor, the suspect was placed under police supervision and banned from driving. He faces up to five years in prison.
