Among other things, thanks to information provided by criminal investigators from Lublin, officers of the Criminal Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław quickly identified and detained a Georgian gang of burglars operating in two provinces. Coordinated actions by Lower Silesian police officers also led to the detention of three other perpetrators of these crimes in Oleśnica County.
In this case, the burglars stole a considerable amount of money in two currencies. The court ordered pre-trial detention for the entire gang for a period of three months. This is another success for Lower Silesian police officers in the fight against property crime, achieved this time thanks to excellent cooperation with colleagues from the Lublin provincial headquarters.
Officers from the Criminal Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław, working closely with criminal investigators from the Lublin provincial headquarters, detained three men just a few hours after a house was broken into. They had committed the crime. They were Georgian citizens aged 37, 45 and 48. Such rapid identification and detention of the burglars by Lower Silesian police officers was possible, among other things, thanks to excellent cooperation with officers from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Lublin, who provided a great deal of extremely important information in the case.
The investigation files show that one of the detained men had been staying in Warsaw for some time. However, the perpetrators were detained in Wrocław. Criminal investigators from the capital of Lower Silesia established that, taking advantage of the residents’ absence, the perpetrators entered a single-family house in Wrocław’s Karłowice district. They did not find any property of interest to them there. Nevertheless, their actions caused damage worth several thousand zlotys.
The evidence gathered in the case shows that the same perpetrators committed two burglaries at houses in Poznań on 19 March this year. Taking advantage of the owners’ absence, the thieves entered the properties and, after forcing open the entrance doors, went inside. In the first case, they stole PLN 4,000 in cash and gold jewellery. The victim valued the stolen and damaged property at a total of nearly PLN 8,000. In the second case, the perpetrators ransacked the rooms and stole anything they believed had any value: a watch, mobile phone, commemorative and collector coins, postage stamps, and documents containing the personal data of one of the victims. In this case, the stolen property was valued at PLN 2,500.
The evidence collected in the case enabled charges carrying a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment to be brought against all the perpetrators during the procedural proceedings. The court granted the prosecutor’s request and ordered pre-trial detention for the entire gang of Georgian citizens for a period of three months.
The case is ongoing and may develop further. It cannot be ruled out that the detained perpetrators committed other offences, not only in Lower Silesian or Greater Poland Voivodeships.
Subsequently, coordinated actions by Lower Silesian police officers led to the detention of further perpetrators of a burglary committed last Wednesday, 26 March, in Oleśnica County.
Immediately after receiving the report, Oleśnica criminal investigators, supported by officers from the Criminal Department of the Lower Silesian provincial headquarters, sprang into action. However, the perpetrators attempted to flee in order to avoid detention. Their plan was quickly thwarted. By analysing the collected materials and secured forensic traces, the police quickly located the suspects. Their detention resulted from intensive operational work and effective coordination between the two units. During the operations, officers recovered some of the stolen items.
Ultimately, officers detained three men aged 35, 38 and 42 who, acting jointly and in agreement in Oleśnica County, entered a house after forcing open a window and, while the owners were absent, stole a considerable amount of money: PLN 130,000 and USD 1,200. What is more, when detained, the perpetrators were travelling in an Audi bearing registration plates not assigned to that vehicle. In addition, during the operations, officers found nearly 100 portions of various psychoactive substances in the apartment of one of the detainees.
A check of the data in police systems confirmed that all the perpetrators had fairly extensive criminal records. The detainees had been previously recorded by the police and some had even been wanted by law enforcement authorities. Findings showed that one of the detainees—a 39-year-old—had been wanted by a court for some time in order to serve a sentence of two years and six months in prison.
It is worth emphasising that during the operations, police officers recovered a significant portion of the stolen money. The court ordered pre-trial detention for all the suspects for a period of three months.
The investigation is ongoing, and the services are analysing evidence that may contribute to further findings concerning the activities of the detained gang. The charge of burglary under Article 279 of the Criminal Code carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
This is another success for Lower Silesian police officers in the fight against property crime, achieved this time, among other things, thanks to excellent cooperation with colleagues from the Lublin provincial headquarters. Two groups of burglars, including Georgian citizens, have been dismantled and most likely have much more to answer for. The investigations into both cases are ongoing.
