– Customs and Tax Service officers from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław inspected a truck carrying waste on the A4 motorway near Jędrzychowice. The driver, who was travelling from Germany, attempted to bring 24 tonnes of waste into Poland in the form of crushed metal containers – reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, press spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.

She adds: – The Polish recipient did not have a permit to process the transported load. Moreover, they were unable to recover or dispose of this waste in a manner compliant with the law. WIOŚ deemed the transport of the waste illegal.

The waste shipment was returned to the sender in Germany. Customs and Tax Service officers escorted the shipment to the Polish-German border. The spokesperson said: – The recipient of the waste faces a fine ranging from PLN 10,000 to PLN 1 million.

Since the beginning of the year, officers from the Lower Silesian KAS have intercepted 47 tonnes of illegal waste.
