18 March 2025 The District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica filed an indictment against the perpetrator of the brutal murder of a man at a bus stop on Piłsudskiego Street in Legnica. The incident occurred in mid-September last year, during a flood alert. – The perpetrator is the life partner of the victim’s daughter – explains Liliana Łukasiewicz, spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica. – He spent Sunday afternoon and evening at the apartment of his daughter and the accused. After 9 p.m., heavily intoxicated, he decided to take a bus home. He went to the bus stop on Piłsudskiego Street. The accused went out immediately after him. He put on a balaclava and took with him a baseball bat he had previously bought online.
She adds: – When he reached the scene, he vulgarly ordered the man standing at the bus stop to leave. Then, despite the presence of a homeless man at the stop, who was sitting on the same bench as the victim, he approached his partner’s father and struck him at least thirteen times in the head with tremendous force.
As a result of the blows, the victim suffered massive craniocerebral injuries. He died at the scene.
As the accused was leaving, he noticed the homeless man still standing at the bus stop. He approached him, struck him in the back with the bat, and then threatened to kill him if he disclosed anything.
The perpetrator then fled to the apartment and went to sleep. The next day, he left the country with his partner to bring home a family member who had been informed of the victim’s death.
After returning, from 16 to 25 September 2024, the accused urged two people he knew to testify that on the day of the murder they had been with him on the embankments of the Kaczawa River, where they were supposedly helping reinforce the embankments because of the flood threatening the city. The witnesses refused to give false testimony.
On 3 October, the accused was arrested while staying at a hospital in Wrocław, and the following day, in the hospital ward, he was temporarily detained by court order.
Spokesperson:
In addition to the murder charge, the accused was also charged, among other things, with attempting to induce three witnesses to give false testimony under Article 233 § 1 of the Penal Code, and with influencing a witness through violence in order to force the man he had struck with the bat to refrain from giving testimony. The accused did not plead guilty to the acts with which he was charged. He gave explanations which, in the interests of the proceedings, cannot be disclosed before the start of the trial.
Psychiatric experts determined that the above-mentioned man was mentally competent at the time of the offense. Investigators: – The above-mentioned man is not mentally ill, but he has psychopathic personality traits. He is nervous, prone to irrational ideas, has little ability to control his impulses or cope with stress, is inclined toward aggressive behavior, and becomes angry easily. His behavior resulted exclusively from traits of a disordered personality and was his choice, which means that he could fully control it.
The man could face life imprisonment.
