Police officers from the Department for Combating Crimes Against Life and Health, who deal with combating crime related to the stockpiling and production of explosives, carried out a successful operation resulting in the arrest of a 46-year-old resident of Legnica suspected of producing and possessing explosives, as well as possessing firearms and ammunition without a permit.

– Meticulous operational work made it possible to establish the identity of the man who was involved in stockpiling dangerous substances. Information obtained by the officers indicated that the detainee was considered unpredictable and capable of posing a threat to local residents and, in the event of an intervention, also to police officers – explains Senior Warrant Officer Monika Kaleta from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – For this reason, special precautions were taken and an ambush was prepared, which ended with the suspect’s arrest in Kunice.

Police officers from the Independent Counter-Terrorist Police Unit in Wrocław also took part in the operation. They searched the suspect’s properties, basements and cars.

The spokesperson said: – During the searches, officers secured chemical substances used to produce explosives, an improvised explosive device containing TNT, detonators with pentrite, black powder, an F1 grenade with an explosive charge, a crossbow with bolts, pyrotechnic mixtures and bangers of unknown origin, as well as 660 rounds of approximately 9 mm caliber ammunition.

She added: – A forensic experiment involving an expert confirmed that the secured materials were prohibited under the Criminal Code and posed an enormous threat to people and property.

She concluded: – It should be emphasized that handling explosives is extremely dangerous. In the hands of irresponsible and incompetent people, such items can lead to tragedies on an unimaginable scale. Thanks to the officers’ actions, the arrested man had no opportunity to carry out his potentially dangerous plans.

The 46-year-old man was charged. At the prosecution’s request, the court remanded him in custody for three months. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
