Police officers regularly conduct operations with officers of the Dolnośląski Customs and Tax Office aimed at combating gambling-related crime. At the end of February, they entered three premises at the same time in Złotoryja and Świerzawa, where illegal casinos were allegedly operating. – Upon entering, the uniformed officers confirmed this information, discovering a total of nine machines on which games of chance were installed and operated for commercial purposes, requiring a licence necessary to run a casino – reports Junior Inspector Justyna Ejlak from the KPP in Złotoryja. – During the search of the premises, police officers also secured cash in the amount of PLN 13,000.

In addition, procedural experiments conducted on site by the police officers and customs officers confirmed that these were machines operating in violation of the provisions of the Gambling Act. The spokesperson said: – On this basis, the machines were secured and handed over to officers of the Dolnośląski Customs and Tax Office, who will conduct further proceedings in this matter.

Possessing illegal machines carries a severe financial penalty – PLN 100,000 per machine. This penalty may be imposed not only on the owner of the illegal machines but also on the person who leases or rents out premises where these devices are placed. Organizing gambling games carries not only a hefty fine but also a prison sentence of up to three years.
