– A 32-year-old resident of Lubin, after a booze-fuelled night out, decided to drive his friends home, thinking he would not attract attention while driving through the city centre in the morning – reports asp. szt. Krzysztof Pawlik, deputy press officer of the Lubin District Police Headquarters. – The driver greatly overestimated his psychophysical condition and his abilities, and what he did at the roundabout on Paderewskiego surprised even experienced traffic police officers from Lubin.

Not only did the man fail to enter the correct lane for turning right, but when entering the roundabout, he also ended up hanging on the kerb. The spokesperson said: – He was extremely unlucky because he did it just as a marked police car was driving through the roundabout. Before the man managed to get out and escape, he had already been arrested.

The driver had a blood alcohol level of 1.5 per mille. What is more, it emerged that he was subject to a court-ordered driving ban, issued precisely for driving while intoxicated.

Police officer:

The trip cost him dearly: his car was towed to a police car park at his expense, and under the amended criminal legislation, the Lubin Court, in expedited proceedings, sentenced the 32-year-old to one year in prison, suspended for a three-year probation period, a fine of PLN 10,000, a lifetime ban on driving motor vehicles, probation supervision and an obligation to undergo addiction treatment.
