On 19 February, inspectors from the Wrocław Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, working together with officers from the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja, carried out official activities in connection with a detained transport carrying waste in the form of used car tyres. WIOŚ: – According to the presented waste transfer note, the unloading was to take place in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
During an inspection of the vehicle, it was found that 16.5 tonnes of used tyres were planned to be deposited. Despite being properly marked, the vehicle did not have correctly completed transport documents.
Inspectorate:
The documentation held by WIOŚ in Wrocław showed that the recipient of the above-mentioned waste was to be a plant that burned down in 2022, as a result of which the production hall, as well as the machinery and equipment located inside it, and the office building were destroyed by fire.
Consequently, since 2022, the tyre pyrolysis plant has ceased to exist in functional terms, and therefore cannot receive waste as a waste-processing installation.
The result? The inspectors deemed the cross-border shipment of waste illegal. The illegal waste transport was sent back to Germany under police escort.
Wrocław WIOŚ sums up:
WARNING! Illegal cross-border shipment of waste carries a prison sentence of one to 10 years, while in the case of hazardous waste, the prison sentence ranges from two to 12 years.
