The investigation against 29-year-old Jelenia Góra resident Dominik K., suspected of attempting to murder a man he encountered randomly on the street, has been concluded. – The District Prosecutor in Jelenia Góra submitted to the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra a motion to discontinue the investigation and apply a preventive measure against suspect Dominik K. in the form of placing him in a closed psychiatric facility – explains prosecutor Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.
The incident occurred on June 8, 2024, in Jelenia Góra, on Słowackiego Street. At around 11:00 p.m., Dominik K., while walking along the street, approached a man he encountered by chance and, holding a knife with a blade approximately 20 cm long, attacked him with the weapon for no reason. Spokesperson: – The perpetrator repeatedly struck the victim, who was defending himself, with the knife around the head, neck and abdomen, causing stab wounds to his right thigh and left arm, resulting in a health disorder lasting less than seven days.
She adds:
Questioned as a suspect, Dominik K. did not admit to committing the alleged crime. He explained that he had no knowledge of the incident. However, he was unable to say what he had been doing at the time.
At the request of the District Prosecutor in Jelenia Góra, the perpetrator was remanded in custody for three months from the time of his arrest. During the investigation, a team of psychiatrists and a psychologist was appointed. They determined that K. is mentally ill. They stated that, at the time of the alleged offense, he had completely lost the ability to recognize its significance and to control his conduct.

Therefore, in connection with the contents of this opinion, the prosecutor submitted a motion to the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra in this case to discontinue the proceedings against Dominik K., because – pursuant to Article 31 § 1 of the Polish Criminal Code – he did not commit the alleged offense, as he was legally insane at the time it was committed.

The prosecutor also submitted a motion to the Court to apply a preventive measure against Dominik K. in the form of placing him in a closed psychiatric facility. In their opinion, the experts stated that, due to his mental health condition, there is a high probability that the suspect will again commit an act of considerable social harm, including an offense against life and health.
