At the beginning of February, we wrote that a paid car park would be built in front of the PKP railway station. The information was confirmed by Bartłomiej Sarna, press spokesperson for PKP’s Real Estate Management Branch in Wrocław. During the sixth session of the City Council, held on Wednesday, 23 February, the matter was raised by Mirosław Sakowski, head of the Civic Platform councillors’ group. “I would like to stress that throughout the entire previous term, Mayor Piotr Roman and we fought for the renovation of this station. It was supposed to be a showcase for our city. At this point, the square in front of the building has been fenced off with unsightly tape, and an even uglier and shabbier shack is being erected in the middle,” Sakowski said, asking what the municipal authorities and the city architect intended to do to restore the place to an appropriate appearance.

Deputy Mayor Kornel Filipowicz informed everyone present in the Councillors’ Hall that the city authorities had submitted a notification to the regional building supervision inspector concerning “activity potentially constituting unauthorized construction” and that this move “should lead to solving the problem.” Jerzy Zieliński, the city secretary, joined the discussion. “I understand Councillor Sakowski’s concern,” he stressed. “However, Bolesławiec has a district building supervision inspector, and it is this inspector, rather than the city architect, who is responsible for assessing the matter about which the councillor asked. We did much more: we courteously informed the regional building supervision inspector that the district inspector does not notice this abomination. Whether this will be effective is difficult to say.”

The floor was also taken by Jan Kisiliczyk, head of the Municipal Property and Spatial Management Department. The official explained that the area mentioned by the local government representatives is what is known as a special area. “In such a case, the authority competent to notify the authorities about unauthorized construction is the regional building supervision inspector, not the district inspector,” he pointed out.

We will return to this topic.
