The District Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra is conducting an investigation against a 25-year-old man who, without the required qualifications (education: middle school), provided medical advice, exposing patients to the risk of losing their health and lives. The suspect was also charged with money laundering and tax fraud.
Prosecutor Ewa Antonowicz, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra:
The evidence gathered during the investigation indicates that the suspect, despite having no medical education, conducted activity suggesting professional healthcare services. Previously, he traded in car parts, but in 2023 he registered a business under a name suggesting a medical specialization. He listed naturopathy as the official scope of his activity, although he completed the courses required in this field only at the end of 2024.
And she adds:
The man actively promoted his business on social media, where on platforms such as: Facebook, Instagram and TikTok he published content suggesting his alleged medical knowledge. He used titles that could mislead patients and appeared in recordings wearing a doctor’s coat, which was intended to lend credibility to his qualifications. He offered paid online consultations during which he gave advice on treating various diseases—from dermatological conditions to oncological diseases.
In January—still at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra—police officers conducted searches, securing a number of pieces of evidence in the case; these activities contributed to the 25-year-old being charged. Spokesperson: – Electronic devices were secured at the suspect’s place of residence, while supplements offered to patients were secured for examination at the company’s premises—a residential house.
And she explains: – The proceedings were initiated in connection with publications by Magazyn Wp.pl and a notification from the Patient Rights Ombudsman. In one documented case, the suspect provided consultations to an oncology patient, independently interpreting imaging examinations and recommending scientifically unverified preparations, including the chemical solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). At the same time, he urged the patient to abandon a cancer biopsy and continue oncological treatment.
At the prosecutor’s request, an expert opinion in forensic medicine was obtained. It indicated that the suspect’s actions could have exposed the victim to the risk of death or serious harm to her health, thereby meeting the elements of a criminal offense.
The investigation also revealed that the suspect derived substantial financial benefits from his activity. Investigators: – Information was obtained from the General Inspector of Financial Information showing that between January 2023 and December 2024, PLN 4,169,200 was paid into his bank account, originating both from paid consultations and from the sale of dietary supplements. Some of the funds were subsequently transferred to other bank accounts and invested, which constituted an element of the money-laundering scheme. It was established that the suspect took steps to conceal the sources of the funds and avoid their confiscation.
And they add: – Moreover, an analysis of tax returns showed that the suspect understated the taxable base. In the VAT-7 returns filed for 2023–2024, he reported income of PLN 2,198,156, while his actual revenue amounted to more than PLN 4.1 million. In this way, he committed tax fraud resulting in a reduction of the amount due; its value is currently being determined.
The suspect was detained and charged under Article 160 § 1 of the Criminal Code (exposing another person to the danger of loss of life or serious harm to health), Article 58(2) of the Act on the Professions of Physician and Dentist (conducting medical activity without qualifications), Article 299 § 1 and 5 of the Criminal Code (money laundering), and Article 56 § 1 of the Fiscal Penal Code (tax fraud).
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Zielona Góra filed a motion with the court for the application of pre-trial detention for three months. Spokesperson: – The case is developing, and a comprehensive explanation is necessary, including verification of the actions taken by the authorized public administration bodies. We will provide information on further findings in subsequent announcements.
