– Officers of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters had been investigating an unsolved 2015 case involving 2 burglaries and 2 attempted offenses. The perpetrator stole various tools worth a total of 4,000 zlotys – explains Senior Sergeant Aleksandra Pieprzycka of the Press Section of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
She adds: – A forensic police technician worked at the crime scenes, among others, and more than 9 years ago secured the fingerprints of a potential perpetrator. The evidence was registered in an automated fingerprint identification system used by various services.
How was the burglar caught?
At the turn of 2023 and 2024, evidence secured at a crime scene by another Police unit was entered into the database. The suspect was arrested and remanded in custody.
Interestingly, the 27-year-old man from Bolesławiec County denied that he was the perpetrator of the 2015 burglaries. The spokesperson said:
Consequently, comparative material was collected from the detainee, and a fingerprint identification specialist from the Forensic Laboratory of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław unequivocally confirmed that the fingerprints secured in the cellar burglary case belonged to the arrested 27-year-old.
At the beginning of 2025, an officer of the Investigation Department of the Bolesławiec unit concluded the proceedings by filing an indictment against the former resident of the county.
Burglary is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
