Złotoryja traffic police conducted a “Sobriety” operation on January 7. During it, at around 5:50 a.m., officers stopped the driver of a Volkswagen for a roadside check. – A 40-year-old resident of Zakopane was sitting behind the wheel. He was visibly surprised by the roadside check. It quickly turned out that the driver had a great deal to hide – reports Sub-Inspector Justyna Ejlak of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja.

She adds: – A check of the data in police systems confirmed that the 40-year-old was subject to an active court ban on driving motor vehicles and was also listed as a person whose driving privileges had been revoked.

That was not the end of the matter. The spokeswoman says: – It soon came to light that the man was wanted under an arrest warrant. Officers determined that the 40-year-old had been hiding from law enforcement for some time in order to avoid serving an eight-month prison sentence for an offense he had previously committed.

The man from Małopolska has already been sent to prison. Now, for violating the court ban, he faces up to an additional five years behind bars.
