Winter supervision arrangements for railway lines are intended to ensure safe and efficient travel for Christmas and New Year. Weather conditions are continuously monitored, and the services’ readiness is adjusted accordingly.

PLK SA dispatchers remain in contact with carriers and technical services around the clock. During the Christmas and New Year period, the following will be ready for work: 175 rapid fault-removal teams, 18 railway technical rescue teams, and 66 overhead-line trains for repairing failures in the traction network. These are equipped, among other things, with devices for de-icing the traction network and special reinforced pantograph attachments for removing frost and rime from contact wires. Snow fences limiting snow being blown onto the tracks have been installed along 824 km of railway lines. Work is under way to protect the traction network in the event of freezing precipitation and icing. During the peak passenger transport period, standby locomotives are planned to be ordered in case of failures involving rolling stock or railway infrastructure equipment.

Safe travel

During the Christmas and New Year period, nearly 3,000 Railway Protection Guard officers, supported by the Police, Border Guard and other services responsible for public safety, will watch over passengers’ safety at stations and on trains. An average of 600 RPO patrols will be on duty every day throughout the country’s railway area.

RPO officers will pay particular attention to passenger trains, which, as every year during the holiday period, are expected to carry increased numbers of travelers. Additional RPO patrols will appear on around 1,300 passenger trains. Officers will also be present along railway routes and near level crossings, where they will ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians using modern equipment and technical devices, including Mobile Monitoring Centres (MCMs), night-vision devices, thermal-imaging binoculars and camera traps. The officers will be supported by more than 60 patrol and defense dogs. Officers will also operate in civilian clothing, using operational and intervention groups assigned special tasks to prevent crimes and offenses in railway areas.

The RPO 24-hour emergency number – 22 474 00 00 remains available for reporting information about threats in railway areas.

The Railway Protection Guard appeals to everyone present in railway areas to exercise prudence and common sense, take particular care, and not leave luggage unattended, as it may pose a potential threat.

Passenger support

To ensure comfortable travel, the Customer Support Centre operates around the clock, providing passengers with assistance at every stage of their journey. In the event of disruptions caused, among other things, by adverse weather conditions, the CSC arranges transport for travelers to their destination station and provides refreshments or accommodation. CSC employees cooperate with passenger train crews.

It is worth checking the timetable
