Legnica police officers received a report about an Opel left on the road under the railway crossing barriers. When the officers arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle locked, but there was no driver nearby.
The situation required swift intervention. A car left in such a place posed a threat to road safety and could obstruct the use of the railway crossing.
The police began determining who owned the vehicle. It turned out that the Opel belonged to a 31-year-old woman.
She was hurrying to work. That was how she explained her actions
The woman was summoned to police headquarters. As she explained to the officers, she had not noticed the barriers and, because she was hurrying to catch the train she was supposed to take to work, she left the car and ran to the station.
Her explanation did not spare her the consequences. The car was towed to a guarded car park, and the 31-year-old received a PLN 300 fine. She also received 5 penalty points.
That is not the end of the expenses, however. The woman will also have to cover the costs of towing and keeping the vehicle at the guarded car park.
Police remind the public: haste does not justify breaking the law
The police appeal for particular caution near railway crossings. Leaving a car within the barrier area may endanger other road users and make it more difficult to use the crossing safely.
Even if a driver is hurrying to work or fears missing a train, they should not make decisions that could put others in danger.
