The damaged footbridge has already been dismantled. President Piotr Roman announced that the new crossing is to be constructed differently. Above all, it is to be wider, so that cars can drive across it. Traffic would travel in a single lane and would be controlled by traffic lights.
The new bridge would enable access for emergency services. There is also to be a separate path for pedestrians. According to the president, the bridge should be designed so that there is no support in the middle of the river obstructing its flow. This is highly significant in the context of the recent flooding and the elevated water level in the river, which carried, among other things, broken and uprooted trees.
