The Voivodeship Administrative Court in Wrocław, in its judgment of 30 October 2024, found the Mayor of Bolesławiec to have been inactive. The case concerned the processing of a request for public information regarding promotional expenditure for 2023. To this day, Roman had refused to disclose the detailed spending. The court has now ordered the mayor to fulfil this obligation within 14 days of receiving the final judgment.
“I want to find out what Piotr Roman is hiding. I want to know the amounts City Hall paid to the media, to see whether the reports that journalists are in cahoots with Roman are true. I also want to see whether Roman is managing our public money properly,” says Krzysztof Gwizdała.
It is worth adding that Piotr Roman had previously expressed a dismissive attitude towards demands for transparency in informal conversations, suggesting that “we would see what the court decided.”
Now, after another lost case—in August 2024, the court fined Mayor Piotr Roman for failing to forward Krzysztof Gwizdała’s complaint to the court—it is clear that the city head’s obstruction of access to public information is not only an unnecessary burden on the local government budget, but also a failure to fulfil the basic duty of ensuring transparency in public life.
