As reported by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, the investigation against 17-year-old resident of Gryfów Śląski Adam W. suspected of murdering his father Paweł W. has been concluded.
The Lwówek prosecutor’s office submitted to the court in Jelenia Góra a motion to discontinue the investigation and apply a preventive measure against suspect Adam W. in the form of placing him in a closed psychiatric facility.
The incident occurred on August 12, 2024, in Gryfów Śląski. – At approximately 2:00 p.m., Adam W. came to the office of a vehicle inspection station and suddenly, holding a kitchen knife with a 20-centimeter blade, attacked his father, striking him at least 35 times with the weapon in various parts of his body and causing the victim very extensive injuries, including a stab-and-cut wound in the left armpit area and a stab-and-cut wound in the chest area – reports Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. – Paweł W. died as a result of his injuries.
Questioned as a suspect, Adam W. did not admit to committing the alleged crime and refused to provide an explanation.
At the request of the District Prosecutor in Lwówek Śląski, the perpetrator was placed in temporary custody for three months.
Prosecutor:
During the investigation, a team of psychiatric and psychological experts was appointed. They determined that Adam W. is mentally ill. The experts did not diagnose him with an addiction to any psychoactive substance, including alcohol. They did, however, determine that at the time of the alleged offense, he was completely incapable of recognizing its significance and controlling his conduct.
Therefore, in view of the contents of this opinion, the prosecutor submitted a motion in this case to the District Court in Jelenia Góra to discontinue the proceedings against Adam W., since, pursuant to Article 31 § 1 of the Criminal Code, he did not commit the alleged offense because he was legally insane at the time it was committed.
And added:
The prosecutor also submitted to the court a motion to apply a preventive measure against Adam W. in the form of placing him in a closed psychiatric facility. In their opinion, the experts indicated that, due to his mental health condition, there is a high probability that the suspect will again commit an act of high social harmfulness, including an offense against life and health.
The District Court in Jelenia Góra granted the prosecutor’s motion in full.
