A few days ago, an unusual incident took place in Bolesławiec County. A resident of one of the towns, seeing his neighbor getting into the driver’s seat of a car, suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol. He decided to prevent the “drunk” man from driving away and, by kicking the car, lured the driver out of the vehicle. He then got behind the wheel himself and drove away. He notified the authorities about his actions. He later left the car in front of the owner’s house, hung the keys on a branch, and went to his home.
Meanwhile, the vehicle owner also called 112 and reported what had happened. A traffic police patrol that arrived at the scene established the circumstances of the incident and located the man who had taken the car. During a conversation with the resident of Gromadka Municipality, the officers confirmed that he was the one who had driven away in the reporting party’s car.
The officers also determined that the man who had wanted to prevent the supposedly intoxicated driver from driving was himself under the influence of alcohol. The test showed more than 2 per mille. The vehicle owner’s sobriety test, however, produced a negative result, meaning that he was sober and there were no obstacles to his driving the car.
The resident of Gromadka Municipality was charged with driving while intoxicated, for which he faces up to 3 years in prison, and short-term use of a vehicle, punishable by 3 months to 5 years in prison.
