The unit commander, Col. Rafał Grzywiński, spoke and emphasized the importance of independence in building national identity, as well as the contribution of soldiers to maintaining it: – Independence is not given once and for all; we must nurture it and fight for it.
During the assembly, departmental medals, appointments to subsequent higher military ranks and letters of congratulations were presented.
Regiment:
The celebrations of National Independence Day provided an opportunity to sum up cooperation for security and to promote tradition, history and patriotism.
The commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment honored Bolesławiec County head Tomasz Gabrysiak and Lt. Col. George Gordon with commemorative gorgets, and Deputy Mayor of Bolesławiec Renata Szewczyk, Bolesławiec Municipality Secretary Gabriela Błoniarz and representative of the 43rd Military Economic Unit, Senior Warrant Officer (ret.) Kazimierz Głuch, with commemorative letters.
One element of the ceremony was a close-quarters combat demonstration, “Combat 23,” performed by Polish and American soldiers.
After the parade of subunits that concluded the assembly, participants laid bouquets of flowers and lit candles beneath a commemorative plaque dedicated to the regiment’s historical predecessors—the soldiers of the 214th Wielkopolska Volunteer Field Artillery Regiment and the 23rd Light Artillery Regiment—as well as to the unit’s patron, General of the Armored Forces Tadeusz Jordan Rozwadowski.
