The incident took place on 19 October. Jeleniogórska police headquarters:

(...) at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers from Police Station I noticed a VW Touareg on Kiepury Street in Jelenia Góra, travelling towards Jeżów Sudecki, with faulty lighting.

The officers decided to stop it for a roadside check. Police: – They switched on the light and sound signals and signalled the driver to stop, but he ignored them, accelerated and began to flee.

The officers informed the Jelenia Góra police duty officer about the incident, and further patrols joined the pursuit. The headquarters reported:

During the escape, the man committed a series of road offences, thereby creating a danger to the lives and health of the officers and other road users. He drove on a public road at high speed, among other things, crossed the centre line, forced other drivers onto the shoulder and repeatedly tried to force the officers off the road.

It added: – The driver fled through Jeżów Sudecki, Siedlęcin and Piechowice. In Zachełmie, on a straight section of road, he suddenly turned towards the fields and ended up in a ditch. He still wanted to escape on foot, but the officers prevented him from doing so.

No one was injured in the incident. The driver turned out to be a 44-year-old resident of Karkonoski County. Jeleniogórska Municipal Police Headquarters: – He was visibly agitated when detained. His behaviour indicated that he might have been driving under the influence of intoxicants. His blood was therefore taken for testing. In addition, during the proceedings, the officers found equipment used to steal vehicles in his car.

Moreover, the car driven by the 44-year-old had registration plates assigned to another vehicle and was unregistered and uninsured.

The man was detained and taken into police custody. Today, he will be brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, together with a request for preventive measures to be applied. He faces up to five years in prison.

Police:

If the blood test confirms that the man was driving under the influence of intoxicants, he will also be held liable for that offence.
