UKOS, as a youth movement, played a significant role in the history of Poland. Its members, young people driven by passion and courage, opposed the communist regime, often risking their lives and health for the ideals of freedom and truth. The unveiling of the commemorative plaque was a symbolic step into a new phase of restoring the memory of these activists and recognizing their heroism.

The ceremonies brought together many distinguished guests, including the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Karol Nawrocki, Deputy President Dr. hab. Karol Polejowski, Dr. hab. Kamil Dworaczek, Director of the IPN branch in Wrocław, UKOS activists Bogusław Frydryk and Janusz Jędzierowski, as well as Jan Filipek, President of the Association of Anti-Communist Opposition Activists and Repressed Persons. The following also attended the ceremonies: Bolesławiec County Starost Tomasz Gabrysiak, Chair of the County Council Maciej Małkowski, County Board Member Alina Zarembecka and Deputy Chair of the County Council Bogdan Biernat.

During the ceremony, Bolesławiec County Starost Tomasz Gabrysiak emphasized how important it is for younger generations to know their history and learn about the past so as not to forget the values for which their ancestors fought. Institute of National Remembrance President Dr. Karol Nawrocki added that remembering initiatives such as UKOS is crucial to shaping national awareness and patriotism.

The unveiling of the plaques was not only an act of remembrance but also an encouragement for students to engage in civic activity and undertake efforts for the common good. Inspired by the attitudes of their predecessors, young people can play an important role in shaping the future of their country. Joint speeches, anthems and songs performed by the students expressed respect for the history and values underpinning their education.

Both ceremonies concluded with the laying of flowers beneath the commemorative plaques, a symbolic gesture of remembrance and respect.
