During Wednesday’s session of the Bolesławiec City Council, Monika Rutyna, head of the Spatial Information System Department at Bolesławiec City Hall, presented the department’s activities during the flood. She stressed that officials supported all municipal services in saving the city:
We analysed how much the river level had risen and which areas could be flooded.
She added: – Photos showing the extent of the flooding were sent to me, which enabled me to determine precisely how much the river level had risen.
Monika Rutyna also prepared scenarios for higher water levels – both for the Młynówka and the Bóbr; she examined whether, among other places, Topolowa, Wałowa and Graniczna streets and the Kościuszki housing estate would be flooded.
The official also presented councillors with scenarios of what would happen if the dam failed and 15-metre and 18-metre waves reached the City of Ceramics. In the former case, according to M. Rutyna’s estimates, more than 3,000 buildings, including the Staszica housing estate, would be flooded. In the latter case, even the Market Square would be flooded.
