As the fundraiser’s founder reports:

On 13 September 2024, in Głuchołazy, my beloved grandmother Zosia Torbus lost in a few seconds everything she had worked hard for all her life, devoting herself to educating young people. For many years, she lived and worked as a Polish language teacher in Bolesławiec. Many of you surely know or recognize Zofia personally and know what a wonderful person she is and how much good she has done for her students.

And she adds:

In 2022, after retiring, she decided to move to Opole Voivodeship to enjoy time spent with her loved ones.

The great flood swept away not only all her belongings, but also her dreams of a happy, peaceful life. She lost everything. Although she is safe for now, she has been deprived of basic necessities such as water and electricity.

While saving her life from the devastating force of the elements, Zofia managed to take only a few personal belongings…

She lived on the ground floor of an apartment block, so the flood reached her first.

Because the bridge had been washed away, after the evacuation it was impossible to reach the apartment for two days. Today we know that nothing can be saved from it.

The electrical and plumbing systems were destroyed, while the furniture, household appliances, floors and doors were flooded. Not even clothes or other personal belongings survived.

And she concludes: – Please support us during these difficult times.

How can you help?
