A reader sent us photographs of the flood embankments in Krępnica on 23 September 2025, along with worrying information that the embankments were being breached and levelled as a result of actions by Polish Waters. We asked what work had been undertaken and what exactly Polish Waters would do as part of the work on the flood embankments in Krępnica.

Currently, cleanup work is being carried out on the embankment following work performed by Bolesławiec Municipality. That work consisted of securing the area behind the embankment in September 2024. The actions being taken are not related to rebuilding or interference with the embankment’s structure. At a later date, maintenance work will be carried out to improve the technical condition of the embankments and increase flood safety for residents.

In addition, the Lwówek Śląski Catchment Management Authority is preparing design and cost-estimate documentation, on the basis of which work related to the authorisation of the embankment body and the levelling of the embankment crest will be carried out in 2026.
