It has been only 30 years since Germany abolished the section of the penal code that classified homosexuality as a criminal offence. This relatively recent change in the law enabled the LGBTQIA* community to lead a normal—because free—life, without fear of persecution. In Poland, homosexual acts were legalised as early as 1932, but to this day, same-sex couples remain legally discriminated against and socially marginalised.
CSD in Görlitz is organised by civil society and political parties from the city and district of Görlitz. The Equality March is a demonstration in support of tolerance, equal rights and recognition of the rights of LGBTIQ+ people.
“CSD in Görlitz is committed to tolerance, recognition and equality for LGBTIQ+ people. We want to show that all forms of discrimination and exclusion are unacceptable, and that diversity and tolerance have a place in our society,” says Wojciech Urlich, one of the main organisers and a member of Wildwuchs e.V.
