Starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak:

Ladies and Gentlemen,
today we face the enormous challenge of addressing the consequences of the flood that affected Bolesławiec County in recent days. A disaster of such immense scale has struck Bolesławiec County for the first time in its history. The losses it caused are incomparably greater than those caused by the 1997 flood. A vast area of the county, inhabited by nearly 90,000 residents, has suffered very significant losses to its hydraulic, road and ecological infrastructure. The greatest tragedy brought by the flood, however, is the losses suffered by residents as a result of their homes being flooded and destroyed, the need to evacuate and, in many cases, the loss of the only source of income for large families dependent on agriculture.

Today, as river water levels recede from the flooded areas, a tragic picture of the destruction is emerging. Therefore, the priority task for my colleagues and me is now to restore normality, peace and a sense of security for the residents of Bolesławiec County. Together with the services, we are making every effort to minimize, even to the smallest extent, the severity of the flood’s consequences. We are still dealing with the high water and the destruction it has brought. Thanking you for your work and commitment to date, I am appealing to you today for help for the residents of our county, who have suffered in the flood. The needs are enormous, as the water has repeatedly destroyed everything they owned. Household appliances are needed, primarily washing machines and refrigerators. Cleaning supplies are equally necessary, including washing powder, soap and disinfectant fluids, as well as personal hygiene products.

Therefore, Bolesławiec County Office is launching an information point, where people affected by the flood in Bolesławiec County will be able to report their needs, while those wishing to provide material assistance will be able to obtain the necessary information and logistical support for their efforts.

And he adds:

The information point will operate this coming Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at telephone number 75 671 46 10.
