The MDK New Year's Eve Eve took place on Thursday, December 30. The event began with the play “People and Measures,” which concluded open theatre workshops conducted by Urszula Frąszczak-Matyjewicz. “The classes lasted four days, which is definitely too little time to properly prepare a play. So we focused on integrating the group. At the very beginning, we agreed that there is no democracy in theatre—there is dictatorship, and I am the dictator,” the MDK teacher explains. “In the performance, we used texts in which seriousness mixes with laughter, as well as universal and somewhat provocative pieces.”

Next, the New Year's Eve Eve Concert took place in the auditorium of the Youth Cultural Centre, performed by participants of the vocal studio led by Marek Łętowski. The audience heard 18 songs. The young vocalists presented songs from the repertoires of, among others, Raz, Dwa, Trzy (“In the Big City”), Maanam (“Cicadas in the Cyclades”), Hanna Banaszak (“Good Cheer”) and the group Vox (“Have a Happy Journey, It’s Time”).

The vocal studio participants were accompanied by: Marek Łętowski (keyboard), Marcin Sarkowicz and Maciej Cierniak (bass guitar), Mirosław Kuc (guitar), and Łukasz Ludwikowski (harmonica).

“It is a tradition that we do not give grades during classes. We do not force anyone to do anything. Our students have the opportunity to test their skills during concerts. What is more, through their performances, the students of our institution come into contact with live music. All of this together creates incredible, positive energy,” says Marek Łętowski, director of MDK. “These young people are close to music all the time. They mature musically. They sing because they want to sing. And contact with people who are eager to do something is a fantastic thing.”

During the concert, Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a member of the Bolesławiec County Board, and Marek Łętowski honoured two people associated with MDK: Marcin Sarkowicz (10 years of cooperation with the institution) and Andrzej Malcher (20 years of professional work).
