Nearly one hundred soldiers took their solemn oath on 15 December in Piłsudski Square in Bolesławiec. The ceremony was attended, among others, by representatives of the city and county authorities, veterans’ organizations and uniformed services.

Addressing the recruits, Colonel Jarosław Kraszewski, commander of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade, emphasized the importance of the military oath: – Taking the oath is an expression of your patriotism and your highest commitment to the homeland and society. Remember this every day, proudly wearing the military uniform and honorably representing the values for which many generations of Poles fought.

The following private recruits took the oath on the standard of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade: Krzysztof Wieczorek, Michał Armata, Łukasz Frątczak and Mariusz Reichart. Next, private recruit Piotr Szkoda spoke. – Today we have become full-fledged soldiers, aware of our duties toward the homeland, he said.

That day, soldiers who achieved the best results during training were also recognized. Colonel Kraszewski presented letters of congratulations to Łukasz Wieloch, Filip Opala, Szczepan Ziętek and Remigiusz Sipowicz.

The Honorary Badges of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade were awarded to the head of the Bolesławiec police, Grzegorz Chirowski, and his deputies – Leszek Zagórski and Artur Ciupa.

The oath-taking ceremony concluded with a parade of subunits accompanied by the Żagań Military Band. Wednesday’s ceremony coincided with the observance of Rocket and Artillery Forces Day in the Bolesławiec Garrison. The memorial plaque dedicated to the soldiers of the 5th Artillery Brigade from Głogów was unveiled by retired Colonel Andrzej Truszkowski (the last commander of the Głogów artillerymen), retired Colonel Adam Kęstowicz (chairman of the Association of Former Soldiers of the 5th Artillery Brigade) and the commander of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade.
