A traffic patrol on Nowodworska Street in Legnica noticed a Peugeot travelling without its dipped headlights switched on.
– The officers decided to stop the car for a traffic check – reports Police Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert, press officer of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters. – During the conversation, the driver smelled of alcohol. A breathalyser test confirmed that the man should not have been behind the wheel. The 43-year-old had nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled breath.
She adds:
Under the new regulations, he lost not only his driving licence but also his car. His vehicle was towed to a guarded car park. The resident of Legnica will soon face charges carrying a possible sentence of up to three years in prison and a ban on driving vehicles.
The officers: – Let us remember that even the smallest amount of alcohol consumed reduces reaction speed, causes an incorrect assessment of distance and speed, as well as of one’s own abilities. A drunk driver is a potential killer on the road.
