The incident took place on May 13, in the late morning. (This is how the situation was described to istotne.pl by Andrzej Jagiera, head of MZK in Bolesławiec.) A woman with two children—one in a stroller and the other about 10 years old—boarded the bus. She left the aforementioned stroller perpendicular to the direction of travel and went to take a seat with her older child. The stroller was unattended; the woman was not holding it, which the head considers “reprehensible”.
When the driver was leaving the stop, he straightened the bus. At that point, the stroller tilted. The child—fortunately, in an unfortunate situation—fell onto the blanket.
As President A. Jagiera emphasizes, the stroller was already shaking when the bus was traveling along Kościuszki Street.
After the incident, someone from the family reported it to the municipal company, accusing the bus driver of braking suddenly and even claiming that he was drunk. The head of MZK explains that this was impossible because the driver had been tested for alcohol in his system that morning. Moreover, the entire situation looked completely different in the surveillance footage from how it was presented by the person who called to complain.
According to the head, the MZK bus driver did not create any danger. (Since then, the company has received no information about whether the child suffered any injuries).
Update 10:50
After the article was published, the mother of both children called us and presented her version. She said the driver had been driving in a zigzag, which was also noticed by her neighbor, who was traveling on the bus as well.
The mother therefore told the driver to drive carefully because there was a small child on board.
At one point, the Bolesławiec resident reports, the driver allegedly braked suddenly. The stroller then flew forward.
According to our informant, the driver did not stop the bus at that point to check whether the baby was unharmed. What is more, he allegedly called the mother “white trash”.
The woman also emphasizes that she was holding the stroller by its handle and had her foot resting on the wheel. She also maintains that nobody suggested that the driver was drunk.
Fortunately, the child was not hurt.
