The incident took place at one of the stores in the city of Złotoryja. – Police findings indicate that a young man entered the store and immediately headed toward the shelf with chocolate eggs. He grabbed several multipacks containing more than 300 eggs and, without paying, ran out of the store – reports Aspirant Aleksandra Pieprzycka of the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
She adds: – The perpetrator was not acting alone. Another man helped him. He did not enter the store but waited outside so that he could open the automatic doors and enable his accomplice to escape.
One of the store employees reacted to the situation and ran after the perpetrators. The spokesperson said: – She was unable to apprehend them.
The men did not enjoy their haul for long. During the escape, some of the eggs fell out of their packages onto the ground, while the rest were destroyed when one of the perpetrators tripped and fell.
Police:
The losses were estimated at more than PLN 1,500, and Złotoryja police officers began working to establish the perpetrators’ identities and apprehend them. Based on the evidence collected, they identified two residents of Złotoryja as suspects, while cooperation with a local community police officer helped establish where they were staying. One of the men was detained after a foot chase in the city, while the other was hiding in a basement.
Both suspects were charged. Theft is punishable by up to five years in prison. Aspirant A. Pieprzycka said: – In the case of the 24-year-old, the sentence may be more severe because he had previously been convicted of similar offenses.
