The incident took place on 11 March at around 3:15 p.m. – The duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra was notified that an armed mortar round fitted with a fuze from the Second World War had been found on Legnicka Street – reports Sub-Inspector Edyta Bagrowska of the Municipal Police Headquarters.

She adds:

Until the bomb-disposal specialists arrived from the military unit in Bolesławiec, the site was secured by police officers from Jelenia Góra, including the explosives-recognition and bomb-disposal team from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra.
