– For several days, officers responsible for combating property crime had been conducting intensive operations, carefully analyzing reports concerning the theft of a Mercedes worth PLN 450,000 and the attempted theft of a BMW X5 worth PLN 250,000 – reports Senior Aspirant Łukasz Porębski of the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – This arduous and labor-intensive case required extraordinary precision and tremendous commitment from the officers, but once the detectives were certain they had followed the right lead and identified the people behind the theft and attempted theft of the vehicle, it was only a matter of time before they were arrested.
He adds: – Yesterday, under cover of night, when two residents of Lubań County came to Legnica for what is colloquially called a “job,” detectives, together with officers from the Intelligence Unit, increased their vigilance to prevent the theft.
While patrolling Stanisławowska Street in Legnica, police recognized a man involved in car thefts who was walking near vehicles, looking for the most suitable target.
A moment later, officers noticed another man, also suspected of car theft. He was sitting in a vehicle. The spokesperson said: – During the arrest, the 17-year-old asked the police officers to be very gentle because of the equipment worth nearly PLN 40,000 that he had in his backpack.
Senior Aspirant Ł. Porębski:
During the actions carried out after the man’s arrest, police found a suitcase-type device and a cable serving as an antenna. The equipment found is used to steal premium cars fitted with the Keyless Go system.
During further operations, police found and secured phones, tools for pulling out locks and ignition switches, and a “bone” used to break an immobilizer code. It can confidently be said that the equipment found by detectives could have been used to steal any type of car, from older models to the most luxurious ones.
What is more, it came to light that the 30-year-old had recently been released from prison, where he had served a previously imposed sentence for property crimes. The spokesperson said: – His next “business venture” did not end well for him.
In the near future, the residents of Lubań County will hear the charges against them and will be brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica.
