On February 26, 2024, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman was informed that GDDKiA and Himmel i Papesch had signed an agreement to build two bridges over the Bóbr River, along with the reconstruction of the road system in Bolesławiec. The city authorities’ many years of efforts are reaching a successful conclusion.
The old bridge will be dismantled, and two new ones will be built in its place. In addition, a second bridge will be constructed on the northern side, resulting in two parallel twin bridges. The project also includes construction of a section of the dual-carriageway DK94. At both ends of the bridge crossing, turbo roundabouts will be built, with dimensions ensuring smooth traffic flow. The company will begin work as early as the first half of this year.
– We will replace the old bridge in Bolesławiec with two new ones – says Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad Oddział we Wrocławiu. – We have signed an agreement to expand the road system, including the reconstruction of the existing bridge and construction of a new bridge over the Bóbr River along national road no. 94 in Bolesławiec. The most advantageous bid, worth approximately PLN 41 million, was submitted by Himmel i Papesch Opole.
The contractor has 32 months from the date of signing the agreement to complete the project, including obtaining the occupancy permit. This means that the work is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Two bridges
The existing bridge will be dismantled due to its poor technical condition and non-standard parameters, and a new one will be built in its place. In addition, we will build a second bridge on the northern side, resulting in two parallel twin bridges. We will also build a section of the dual-carriageway DK94.
Each new bridge will have a two-lane roadway, a sidewalk and a bicycle path. This solution will ensure good connections between the two banks of the river not only for motor vehicles, but also for pedestrians and cyclists. Turbo roundabouts will be built at both ends of the bridge crossing, with dimensions ensuring smooth traffic flow and complete freedom to choose the direction of travel.
Reconstruction of the road system
As part of the project, nearly 600 m of DK94 will be reconstructed, and its load-bearing capacity will be increased to 11.5 tonnes per axle. A roundabout will be built at the site of the current intersection of DK94 and Widok Street (provincial road no. 350), while the existing roundabout at Zgorzelecka Street will be reconstructed. Two more DK94 intersections will also be reconstructed: with Spacerowa Street (county road no. 2324D) and with a municipal road (no. 104068D). Bus bays will be moved outside the main traffic-flow zone, and a sidewalk will be added on the northern side of General August Emil Fieldorf “Nil” Street. A stormwater drainage system, road lighting and road-traffic-safety elements will be built.
The reconstruction of DK94, together with the construction of two bridges, will increase the capacity of the road system and improve road safety. The reconstruction is scheduled for completion in 2026. The project will be financed from the state budget.
