– Złotoryja police were notified of property thefts that occurred three times at the same discount store in the city over a period of two months – explains asp. Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
And she adds: – Each time, the store’s surveillance system captured the perpetrator’s image. The recordings showed that it was a woman wearing a hood or hat, while her face—most likely to avoid being recognized—was covered with a scarf or neckerchief. The woman entered the store, placed both food and non-food items in a basket, and then, without paying for the goods, hurried out of the store with the entire basket.
Złotoryja criminal investigators took up the case. The spokesperson:
They considered various possibilities. One was the suspicion that the same woman was behind each theft, deliberately changing her clothing and acting at longer intervals so that she would not be identified. The criminal investigators’ work and their good knowledge of local persons made it possible to identify the person who was concealing his identity. He was a 24-year-old resident of Złotoryja who committed the thefts disguised as a woman. As he explained, he chose this disguise so as not to be recognized.
The 24-year-old was arrested and taken into police custody. What is more, he was charged with property theft worth a total of more than 1,500 zlotys. Since he is a repeat offender, he faces up to 7.5 years in prison.
