A reader whose Audi A5 was stolen in Trzebień on the night of January 24–25 contacted the istotne.pl editorial office. The theft was reported to the police, who are carrying out activities in this case. According to the reader, a criminal group whose targets are specifically Audi cars may be operating in the region. As evidence, he cites information shared online by owners of this brand’s vehicles who have been affected. It indicates that such cars were recently stolen, among other places, in Bolesławice, Legnica and Świebodzice.
Police on car thefts in Bolesławiec County
As far as Bolesławiec County is concerned, the police have not recently recorded an increase in thefts of Audi cars. According to the Bolesławiec police spokesperson, there has been no noticeable rise in thefts of cars of this particular brand. Various brands are stolen. It is known, however, that Audi is among the brands most frequently stolen nationwide.
Data from the National Police Headquarters show that, besides Audi, thieves also frequently steal Mercedes, VW, BMW and Toyota vehicles. In the last quarter, in Bolesławiec County, VW and Mercedes cars were also stolen in addition to Audi vehicles—that is, cars belonging to the brands most frequently stolen. As for the total number of car thefts (of all brands) in our county, 28 car thefts were reported to the police in 2023. In 2022, as many as 56 such thefts were reported in our area. This means that the number of such thefts fell by half from one year to the next.
Large increase in car thefts nationwide
Data from the National Police Headquarters show that as many as 10,021 cars were stolen nationwide in 2023. A year earlier, there were 7,382 vehicles. This means that the number of car thefts increased by 36% year on year. Cars aged 2–7 years are stolen most often. The regions where the most thefts are recorded are Warsaw and its surroundings, the Silesian metropolitan area and Lower Silesian Voivodeship. According to the police, the number of cars that are taken entirely outside the European Union after being stolen is also increasing.
