The incident occurred on Tuesday, 2 January. – Before 1:00 p.m., a man came to the Police Station in Mirsk and reported that he had made an unusual discovery. During a walk, he found a discarded plastic bag containing a handgun, a hand grenade and ammunition. As he did not know what to do with it, he brought the find to the police officers – reports Staff Sergeant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski.

She adds: – The people inside the building—police officers and station employees—were evacuated immediately.

A police officer from the non-uniformed bomb-disposal and pyrotechnics reconnaissance unit was sent to the scene. A bomb-disposal patrol was also called and took over the troublesome find.

We remind you that if you find an object resembling unexploded ordnance, you should exercise extreme caution. Such an object must not be picked up, thrown, moved or set on fire. The authorities should be informed of the situation as soon as possible by calling the emergency number 112. The place where the object was found should be secured against access by other people, especially children.
