On November 23, 2006, the District Court in Jelenia Góra dissolved the marriage of Alicja G. and Grzegorz K. On December 1, without waiting for the divorce judgment to become legally final, the woman married American Alain F. in the state of Massachusetts. The Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office conducted verification activities in the case. Taking into account the fact that the period of bigamy lasted only 14 days, the prosecutor found that the social harm caused by G.’s act was negligible and refused to open an investigation.
