This year’s Christmas holidays in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship passed relatively peacefully. Over the last three days, officers intervened 2,973 times. Traffic on the roads was fairly heavy, and police dealt with 8 accidents and 179 collisions. This is a number of incidents that is not infrequently recorded over the course of working days.

Nevertheless, recklessness and nonchalance on the roads, as well as excessive speed, remain the main causes of accidents with tragic consequences. Such accidents also occurred in Lower Silesia, including in Oleśnica County and Świdnica County.

One of the accidents occurred on county road P1920 between Piszkawa and Bystre. For reasons not yet established, the driver of an Audi passenger car lost control of the vehicle, left the road and entered a roadside ditch, then hit a tree. The man died at the scene.

Meanwhile, on voivodeship road No. 382, between Nowy Jaworów and Stary Jaworów, a 37-year-old driver of a Citroën, for reasons not yet established, crossed into the opposite lane, causing a head-on collision with a Renault truck with a Janmil semi-trailer. As a result of the injuries sustained, the Citroën driver died at the scene.

Effective police operations resulted in as many as 51 people being removed from the roads. Despite repeated appeals to remain sober, they had decided to get behind the wheels of their vehicles after consuming alcohol.

The holiday period is not only a time of increased work for traffic police officers. Over the past three days, officers arrested 140 people caught committing crimes. Police also detained 61 wanted individuals.
