During the meeting, Grzegorz Grajewski (head of the Wrocław Regional Office of the National Heritage Institute) presented the study to Piotr Roman (president of Bolesławiec). The scope of the study, the history of its preparation and its possible applications were discussed in detail by Bogna Oszczanowska (senior specialist and coordinator of the Competence Centre for Revitalisation for the Lower Silesian and Lubusz voivodeships).
The study’s co-authors were also present at the meeting: Donata Trenkler and Maria Czyszczoń (Wrocław Regional Office, National Heritage Institute), Anna Bober-Tubaj and Barbara Glinkowska (Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec), as well as Marta Zborowska, Marta Gęsikowska and Agnieszka Gergont (Bolesławiec City Hall).
Preparation of the study, which resulted from a pilot ministerial programme, took two years. During that time, researchers conducted archival, field and academic research, searches and study visits. The final result is a ten-volume compendium devoted to the city’s history, monuments and intangible cultural heritage, a novelty in studies of this type. The first volume covers general issues, the next three contain a catalogue of monuments, while the remaining volumes comprise the iconographic and cartographic sections.
It is worth recalling that Bolesławiec’s last historical study was produced in 1953 and was connected with the city’s post-war reconstruction. Its authors were distinguished Wrocław specialists in art history and museology – Wojciech Gluziński, Mieczysław Zlat and Józef Piątek.
Produced 70 years later, the study provides substantive support for the revitalisation planning process and the updating of the city’s planning documents. It will also serve as a base document for the Municipal Revitalisation Programme and the Municipal Register of Monuments, as well as a guide when seeking further grants for the renovation of historic buildings and those located in an area entered in the register of monuments. The study will also serve as a compendium of knowledge for people interested in Bolesławiec’s monuments and cultural heritage.
