The incident occurred last Saturday, before 5 p.m. – Traffic police officers from the Legnica municipal police headquarters spotted a Volkswagen driver on the road from Legnickie Pole to Biskupin who was driving at a decidedly excessive speed – reports Assistant Commissioner Przemysław Ratajczyk, press officer at the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters.
The officers followed him and measured his speed. The spokesperson said: – On a stretch where the speed limit is 60 km/h, the man was speeding at 126 km/h, while where the limit is 30 km/h, he was driving at 78 km/h.
The officers signaled the speeding driver to stop. Assistant Commissioner P. Ratajczyk said: – However, the driver had no intention of stopping, so he accelerated sharply and began fleeing, during which he violated a number of traffic regulations, posing a real threat to other road users.
The officers gave chase, which quickly ended with the fugitive being apprehended. It soon emerged that the 29-year-old resident of the Legnickie Pole municipality was subject to a court ban on driving motor vehicles. What is more, the driver had marijuana on him and got behind the wheel under the influence of intoxicants. (His blood was taken for testing.)
The man was taken into police custody. He now faces up to five years in prison.
