A dangerous situation occurred on Tuesday, October 17, before 10:00 a.m., on Kościuszki Street in Kamienna Góra. – Police officers from Kamienna Góra received information that a 47-year-old man from Kamienna Góra County had stormed into the municipal library building. He doused himself and poured a flammable substance onto the floor. He then set the floor on fire, but fortunately the flames did not spread – reports Staff Sergeant Katarzyna Trzepak-Balicka from the District Police Headquarters in Kamienna Góra.
The people who were in the library at the time managed to leave the scene. No one was injured.
District community police officers from Kamienna Góra – at the risk of their own health and lives – prevented a tragedy. The spokesperson said: – Despite the smoke in the room, they went inside and saw a man holding a lighter in his hand and walking toward them, saying that he wanted to set himself on fire. The police officers knew they could not lose even a moment and, using their experience and skills, subdued the man.
She adds: – In addition to the lighter, the officers also secured a knife that the man had with him.
It turned out that the 47-year-old was drunk; he had more than 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. The resident of Kamienna Góra County was first taken to hospital. (He underwent a psychiatric consultation.) He was then placed in police custody.
