The incident occurred on 2 August in Tomaszów Bolesławiecki. The former husband came to the home of a 58-year-old resident of the town and shot her in the chest with a so-called black-powder firearm. (Possessing this type of weapon is legal; no permit is required.)

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

After shooting his former partner, the suspect left the scene, but later returned. He was arrested by the police. The firearm was secured.

The proceedings in this case are being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec. Activities involving the detained man are scheduled for tomorrow. The 60-year-old will probably be charged with attempted murder, an offence punishable by up to life imprisonment.

Today, investigators intend to question the injured woman. She is feeling better—well enough for a doctor to allow a brief interview.

Importantly, the 60-year-old was subject to an active court order banning him from approaching his ex-wife.
