Bolesławiec police on the incident:
Officers from the Traffic Department of the Bolesławiec Police detained the perpetrator of a collision that occurred on 1 August on the A4 motorway in the direction of Wrocław. The TIR driver, who was returning to Poland from Germany, hit a passenger car stopped on the emergency lane.
A sobriety test showed that the 44-year-old from Katowice had 2‰ of alcohol in his system. The police immediately seized the professional driver's licence. After sobering up, the suspect was charged with driving while intoxicated. The man admitted that he had consumed alcohol during a break at work.
Driving while intoxicated is punishable by up to two years in prison, a long-term loss of one's driving licence and other consequences that may be particularly severe for a professional driver.
