Monika Rutyna, head of the Spatial Information System Department at the Bolesławiec City Hall, came across information that photographs from World War II had survived—or, more precisely, photographs from German air raids on the western part of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. After the war, the microfilms were taken over by the Americans.
The official determined which facility held these materials, so valuable, among other reasons, from a historical perspective. The city wants to obtain them, but an expedition to the area around Washington will be necessary, because the microfilms can only be scanned on site, under the watchful eye of the US Army.
City Hall officials emphasize that they are most interested in aerial photographs of Bolesławiec. In addition to their undisputed historical value, the archival photographs could prove valuable when planning new city investments, for example during consultations with the heritage conservation officer.
