A verdict has been handed down in the high-profile 2019 case. On May 18 this year, the District Court in Bolesławiec found a former teacher at I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec guilty of molesting a student.
The man was sentenced to one year of unconditional imprisonment. He was also banned from working as a teacher and from engaging in activities involving the upbringing of minor children (both bans for three years), as well as being prohibited from approaching the victim.
The ruling is not final.
The Bolesławiec prosecutor’s office sought a harsher sentence for the convicted man. For now, however, it is not known whether prosecutors will appeal the aforementioned ruling.
Let us recall. In mid-January 2019, we reported that, at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, a man who was then 59 years old and suspected of sexually molesting a minor was detained and subsequently remanded in custody.
The investigation established that the crimes took place between January and June 2018. The victim was a 17-year-old student at a Bolesławiec high school, where the then-suspect worked as a teacher.
Investigators reported at the time:
Using unlawful threats and violence, the suspect repeatedly forced her to submit to other sexual acts. He also allegedly deprived her of her liberty for short periods. In committing the crime, he exploited the relationship of dependence between him and the victim.
