In October last year, a reader informed us that the demolition of the old pottery workshop on Widok Street in Bolesławiec had begun. The historic chimney has already been dismantled, and the furnace is now being dismantled.

The 19th-century furnace was built from three types of brick. Each batch is stored on separate pallets, and the building materials are being cleaned. It is painstaking work because the bricks that were located in the arches must be numbered and documented photographically. This is all to recreate the historic structure as faithfully as possible at its new location. Especially since—as representatives of the companies handling the project announce—the furnace itself is to operate as it did in the past.

The workers must of course be very careful, because some of the bricks were cracked, while others simply fell apart. Fortunately, this will not be a problem in the case of the chimney, as after the “move” it will be only 8 metres tall. (Previously, it was 16 metres.)

And what about the furnace? Its upper section will certainly be reconstructed from old brick. The base, however, will be built from new brick. Dismantling work may continue for approximately another two weeks. We will certainly return to this topic.

We reported on the matter in greater detail in the article The demolition of the old pottery workshop on Widok Street is underway. We know what will happen to the furnace and chimney.
