As PKP PLK announces:

Teams of employees from the PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. technical emergency service, Railway Guard officers and security staff will ensure safe and smooth train operations during the holiday travel period. PLK SA dispatchers maintain contact with carriers and technical services around the clock and monitor weather conditions. During the holiday period, 175 rapid-failure-removal teams and 16 railway technical rescue teams will remain on standby. Sixty-six network trains are ready for use in the event of overhead line failures. Standby locomotives have also been provided in case of breakdowns.

Safe travel with Railway Guard officers

From 7 to 10 April, nearly 3,000 Railway Guard officers, supported by the Police, Border Guard and other public-safety services, will watch over passenger safety at railway stations, stops and on trains. PKP PLK reports: – On average, approximately 350 Railway Guard patrols (more than 700 officers) will secure the railway area each day. Additional patrols will be present on around 600 passenger trains. Officers will also be present along railway lines and in the vicinity of level crossings, where they will help ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians. The officers will be supported by more than 100 service dogs and specialist equipment, including Mobile Monitoring Centres, thermal-imaging devices, night-vision devices and binoculars.

Railway Guard officers remind passengers of the basic safety rules:

  • Do not leave your luggage unattended.
  • Keep all valuables, such as cash, with you at all times.

The Railway Guard’s emergency number is available to passengers 24 hours a day – (22) 474 00 00, where they can report situations requiring intervention by Railway Guard officers.

More seats on trains and cheaper family travel

PKP Intercity continuously monitors occupancy on its trains and, when necessary and where possible, strengthens them with additional carriages. This increases the number of seats and ensures appropriate travel comfort.

Passengers planning family trips can pay less for tickets thanks to the “Cheaper with Loved Ones” offer. To use it, simply travel in a group of 2 to 6 people; all members then receive a 30% discount off the basic ticket prices. Importantly, the offer can be combined with statutory concessions and applies to TLK and IC trains on domestic routes.

Remember that tickets must be purchased no later than one day before departure.

When travelling on EIC and EIP express trains, it is worth using the Family Ticket. It entitles groups of 2 to 5 people, including a child under 16, to a 30% discount.

More patrols at railway stations

Station buildings will be patrolled by security staff and Railway Guard officers. If you notice a dangerous situation, you can use PKP.appka. An important feature of the new app is the SOS button, which enables a quick connection to PKP S.A. services responsible for station safety and operating around the clock.

Travel support around the clock

The current timetable is available on portalpasazera.pl, in the Portal Pasażera and PKP.appka mobile apps, as well as on the carriers’ websites. Information about PKP Intercity connections is available via the 24-hour helpline at 703 200 200. At stations, information about train departures and arrivals is displayed on screens and provided through announcements.

The Customer Support Centre operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. It provides passengers with assistance at every stage of their journey. In the event of disruptions caused, among other things, by adverse weather conditions, the CSC arranges transport for passengers to their destination station and provides refreshments or accommodation.

CSC employees cooperate with passenger-train crews. They update announcements made for passengers on trains, at stations and on platforms. If trains are delayed by more than 120 minutes, passengers at several dozen of the largest stations will receive snacks and hot drinks.

Safety at level crossings

Railway workers appeal for caution when crossing level crossings. Always exercise particular care, stop before the stop sign and red lights, and do not drive under lowering barriers. Important telephone numbers to use if the crossing equipment is not working or a car stalls on the crossing can be found on yellow stickers placed on the inside of the St Andrew’s Cross or on the post to which the barrier arm is attached.
