A Reader asked us to publicize the matter. In an email to the editorial office, he wrote: “I am irritated by a certain matter, namely my street – Piaskowa. I am extremely irritated by the proud attitudes of the Mayor, the contractors and UM Bolesławiec, who are celebrating the renovation of the street so enthusiastically. There was television and there were newspapers. Only fireworks are missing. Well, it is not entirely as the Mayor boasts. The street is indeed beautiful, with new lines, signs, etc. But there is something that has been left neglected. I am talking about the pavement between the residential block and the clinic [...]. I repeatedly asked the contractor to also pave this strip connecting Piaskowa Street with the town centre, but the contractor said that he was sticking to the winning tender and that the rest was not his problem”.
He added: “How can one so thoughtlessly leave this section, which is also a fire road? A great many people pass through there, both residents and outsiders. Those who want to take a shortcut to Partyzantów Street are forced to walk through SAND […]. It looks like a large litter box for animals; in fact, they have their own toilet there. People from the block have their own parking area at the back. It becomes absurd when they leave the building onto a beautiful new pavement, only to have to walk through a quagmire a metre later. […] Every time I pass through there, I have to empty sand from my shoes, especially now, when it is summer and we more often wear light footwear”.
We contacted Bolesławiec Deputy Mayor Wiesław Ogrodnik. – Civitas Office [administrujące budynkami przy Piaskowej – przyp. red.] approached the city office on behalf of the residents for permission to lay concrete slabs and install stairs in this area. The residents of Piaskowa were to do it at their own expense – the deputy mayor explains.
As the area is under conservation protection, the city agreed on one condition: whatever was built had to refer to the revitalized city parks. – When the homeowners’ association calculated the costs it would incur, it abandoned the project – says Wiesław Ogrodnik.
This does not mean, however, that the sand will not be cleared. – Most likely, at the turn of August and September, we will tidy up the area, replace the soil with topsoil and sow grass – announces Piotr Woch, deputy director of the Municipal Housing Management Facility.
Below we present our Reader’s comment:
The deputy mayor’s words come as a surprise to me, because no one in the homeowners’ association collected the residents’ consent to renovate the strip. Moreover, I am surprised by the claim that the association was supposed to do something about it. Why does no one mention the owner of the clinic? That is where the largest number of people go – precisely through this litter box...
I am glad that Mr Woch declared that he would tidy up the area, but will greenery really help so much? We still will not be able to walk on a proper pavement; it will continue to be a toilet area... Perhaps even a small strip of pavement could solve the whole situation?
I am attaching photos from the other side, showing the drainage channels. Is the homeowners’ association supposed to deal with them?!!!
I think the city is aware that, by building a pavement strip, it would also have to organize the drainage system, and that is already a considerable expense; hence the passing of responsibility to Civitas...
